A Tribute to my Waterfowl Mentor

by Geryl Mortensen © 2007

When we are fortunate to cross paths with individuals in our life that freely take on the role of mentor and share the secrets of the universe that they have mastered along their own journey, we are blessed. The good Lord must have known that I need more than my share of mentors because I have several great friends that are always there for me and I am a better person because of them...

This image is a small tribute to a dear friend that has unselfishly shared his blind with me over the years inspiring me along the path of the waterfowler, a journey that he mastered many moons ago...

We are kindred spirits, born under the same stars on the same day a decade or so apart. As amateur astronomers, we share the same passion for the mystery of the night sky and the constellations above… While family is first and foremost for both of us, we are grateful for the days spent afield as conservationists...

Individually we seek guidance from the great Creator and openly discuss the mysteries of the universe in the blind as we wait for the great flight to arrive. He always has a story at the ready that I usually need to hear to help guide me back on the path that I’ve wandered from...

I am a better person for crossing his path and attempting to walk his walk, therefore I will always be grateful for the encounter...

While I'm an amateur astrophotographer, in honor of my waterfowl mentor, a public domain deep space Hubble image was used to create this image. In addition to my own work, additional photo credit goes to: NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA) - ESA/Hubble Collaboration
